The scholarship fund was founded in 2000 in memory of Terry Cox, who had a passion for shaping the lives of young people through the sport of rodeo. He dedicated his life to helping others in and out of the rodeo arena, and tragically passed away while serving his community as a deputy for Cameron Parish Sheriff's office.
After Terry's passing, the Cox Family began a scholarship at a local university to honor his memory and continue his legacy of giving back. Since inception, the scholarship fund has paid out over $30,000 to student rodeo athletes.
Our mission is to empower young rodeo athletes to prioritize higher education and community involvement. We are striving to impact as many student athletes as possible who embody the core values of the TXC Foundation: Education, Western Heritage & Citizenship. This can only happen through your generous support.
Selection criteria for TXC Scholarships include a range of elements such as high school academic accomplishments, rodeo career accomplishments and community involvement. Recipients of multi-year scholarships must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 to continue receiving funds, enroll in 15 hours of curriculum and remain in good standing with the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.
The multi-year scholarship application period opens in April and scholarships are awarded in June each year.
One-time TXC scholarships are also awarded each year during the TXC Memorial Jackpot to top performing athletes in each event. Athletes must nominate themselves for these scholarships each year and nominations must be submitted online before the competitor's event begins. Nomination forms can be found on our website or can be completed in person the day of the jackpot.
