Terry Cox had a passion for shaping the lives of young people through the sport of rodeo. He dedicated his life to helping others in and out of the arena, and tragically passed away while serving his community as a deputy for the Cameron Parish Sheriff's office in 1999.
Since Terry’s passing, the Cox Family founded the TXC Foundation to honor his memory and continue Terry’s legacy of giving back. Since inception, the scholarship fund has paid out tens of thousands of dollars to student rodeo athletes – which can only continue to happen through support of generous donors like you.
The mission of the TXC Foundation is to empower young rodeo athletes to prioritize higher education and community involvement. We strive to impact as many student athletes as possible who embody the core values Terry lived his life by, which have become the cornerstone of the TXC Foundation: Education, Western Heritage & Citizenship.
Selection criteria for TXC Scholarships include a range of elements such as high school academic accomplishments, rodeo career accomplishments and community involvement. Multi-year scholarships are awarded to students attending McNeese State University and recipients must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 to continue receiving funds, enroll in 15 hours of curriculum and remain in good standing with the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association while being an active member of the MSU rodeo team.
One-time scholarships are awarded to top performing rodeo athletes during TXC Memorial events - held in September and January each year.
The multi-year scholarship application period opens in April and scholarships are awarded in June.
One-time TXC scholarships are awarded at the TXC Memorial events - the Memorial Breakaway and Calf Roping in January and the Memorial Team Roping in September. Athletes must nominate themselves for these scholarships each year and nominations must be submitted online before the competitor's event begins. Nomination forms can be found on our website or can be completed in person the day of the event.
